"Hi, welcome to the home page of space station 13! I'm glad you have shown inter... oh right, the EU demands we do this thing first"

If you ask the European Union, then the reason this website uses cookies is to get as much personal information from you as possible. If you ask why... To sell to advertisers, obviously! This information includes your IP, Internet service provider, dial up phone number, username and password, your location, your street address, phone number, mobile number, social security number, computer serial number, passport ID, photo, pictures of your pets, credit card number and pin, your shoe size and your penis size for good measure, cause why not.

And if you ask me, which is probably a lot smarter than asking our benevolent legislators, then the only reason we use cookies is to know how many people use the site and because phpbb and mediawiki software requires them.

Now our glorious legislators demand that I explain to you what these cookies actually do. So here we go:

PHPBB forum software: "Your information is collected via two ways. Firstly, by browsing "/tg/station 13" will cause the phpBB software to create a number of cookies, which are small text files that are downloaded on to your computer’s web browser temporary files. The first two cookies just contain a user identifier (hereinafter "user-id") and an anonymous session identifier (hereinafter "session-id"), automatically assigned to you by the phpBB software. A third cookie will be created once you have browsed topics within "/tg/station 13" and is used to store which topics have been read, thereby improving your user experience." (Excert from privacy policy)

MediaWiki wiki software: "Persistent cookies are set for registered, logged in users who have chosen to have their login details remembered. If you do not wish to have these cookies stored on your PC then do not check the "Remember my login on this browser" checkbox when signing in. The cookies used here are sjtagwiki_sjw_UserID, sjtagwiki_sjw_UserName and sjtagwiki_sjw_Token." (Excert from privacy policy)

Google analytics: "Used to gather anonymous statistical information, which allows us to better determine site usage and popularity so we know what is popular and what is not, how much bandwidth we need, what is responsible for the most bandwidth use, etc. The cookies in use are: _ga (distinguishes users); __utma: Used to distinguish users and sessions.; __utmb: Used to determine new sessions/visits.; __utmc: Set for interoperability with urchin.js; __utmz: Stores the traffic source or campaign that explains how the user reached your site.; __utmv: Used to store visitor-level custom variable data.;" (Excert from cookie usage)

Acceptscookie: An extra cookie called 'acceptscookie' is also set to 1 once you agree to the use of cookies.

Big thanks to all the EU legislators who make more money each month than I make in 10 years.
